DR JANETTE BROOKS
MPsych (Clinical) PhD MAPS
A Breathing Space is my private therapy practice, located next to Whitford City shopping centre in Hillarys, Western Australia. My intention is to create a safe therapeutic space in which my clients can find that elusive sense of physical and mental well-being that we are all craving in this busy, demanding world.

Before entering private practice 5 years ago, I worked for 12 years at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and with beyondblue as a clinician and researcher in the field of perinatal mental health (pre-conception, pregnancy and postnatal mental health). Both my Masters and PhD theses investigated anxiety, stress and depression amongst women during pregnancy and postpartum, and included assisted reproductive technology. Working with women to enhance their mental health whilst trying to conceive, or during pregnancy and child-rearing remains my primary area of specialty. However, I also enjoy working with both male and female adults and adolescents on a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, self-esteem, insomnia, body image, eating disorders, weight management, and self-development.
I have published over 30 book chapters, articles, and reports and presented more than 20 papers at international conferences. My next writing project is a non-fiction book - a long held dream that I am hoping to bring to fruition this year!

The therapeutic services I offer at A Breathing Space include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy, Personalized Integrative Therapy (PI Therapy), and Yoga Therapy.
Our mental health is influenced by an array of factors including diet quality, physical health, and lifestyle habits, so I employ an integrative approach to therapy. As a qualified Yoga Teacher I incorporate yoga practices, such as breathing, meditation and postures if/when appropriate and indicated for clients.

I am a Medicare Clinical Psychologist Provider, Member of the Australian Psychological Society, and am registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)/Psychology Board of Australia (PBA).
